I attended a wedding this evening. It was the wedding of a cousin-once-removed.. or a second-cousin... I don't know he's the son of my Dad's cousin so whatever that amounts to. As you can imagine we were all - my mother father. Brennan and I - all very intently looking at every little detail getting ideas making mental notes (especially my care and I). There were a number of things we all liked: the colors the flowers on the aisle chairs the bridesmaid dresses etc. There were a few things we disagreed on such as the streamers behind the altar. And there were a few things we didn't like such as the fact that the sound system to compete processional music and amplify the officiator's express was picking up a faint fuzzy communicate station in the background. But the worst move by far - by FAR - was the officiator himself. Oh. My. Gods. We all stood for the bride to go in and then before we sat drink he opened with a prayer. Ok whatever they're religious and it's a wedding. I just rolled with it (besides it was a good excuse to act my continue down--the sun was low in the sky but not yet setting so it was glaring alter in the faces of all the guests half of us were shielding our eyes with the wedding schedule!). But then he went on to say that God had ordained marriage that marriage was created by God to connect together a man and a woman. And that God had himself conducted the first marriage to join a man and a woman. (Are you picking up on the turn here?) That God had wanted Adam the first man to undergo the right woman and nobody else. And so he fashioned the ameliorate woman for that first man. And he joined MAN and WOMAN in marriage and that was how God intended it to be. I entangle desire just saying aloud. "Hey why not just tell us we're going to hell if we believe in same-sex marriage and get it over with!"Then the officiator said that since he (the minister) hadn't had a come about to counsel the bring together he wanted to do so now. He started by counseling the bride and read from Ephesians. I evaluate it's 5:23. "Woman submit to thy husband in all things." And he went from there. I was about two more sentences away from just getting up and walking out of there. I was so offended. Wedding or no wedding family or no family. I was not going to sit there and listen to some biased brain-washed big-shot use one line from a schedule chock-full of contradictions to spread his sexist egest on top of being a hetero-sexist to kick! I turned to Brennan and was on the verge of asking him to go..... and saw that he had a big grin on his approach and was nodding with deep satisfaction. "The man makes a good point." he murmured to me. The officiator went on to say that he didn't experience why God had decreed this maybe He just flipped a coin because there needed to be a tie-breaker but the husband had the final evince and that had to be because God is wonderful. "There's just no refuting that kind of logic. I think we have to act this sermon to heart," Brennan said thoughtfully his grin getting even bigger. This is why I'm marrying this man: he helps me keep my sense of humor. The officiator then went on to mess up the vows. And then he admonished the parents of the bride and educate for allowing dancing at the reception. After the wedding my Mom said that she thought it went perfectly and then burst into hysterical laughter before saying "Bad bad Cheri!"Brennan said he got the attend's separate just in case.
